NEXT MEETING 5-20-03 7 PM 911 CENTER

Hello all E.A.R.S. members. Our next meeting will be on 5-20-03 at the Talbot 911 Center at 7PM. Chris, KB3HVE and Lucas, KB9MEJ are going to let us know what they have found out about current FCC rules to do with using an auto patch on a repeater.

We have now gotten our second hamfest under our belt. It was held at the Talbot County Community Center last month on April 13th. The weather was beautiful and we had good club participation to run everything. Paul, W3PAW let us use one of his big work trucks and this supported the telescoping mast that held our talk-in antenna. Pete, KB3HSM was our official talk- in person on
146.520. We had about 150 hams in attendance, which was about the same as last year. The total take in at the gate was $855.00 in ticket and tailgating sales. Our expenses for renting the facility were $470.00 and the postage cost $75.00 for mailing out the hamfest flyers. This left us with a profit of $310.00. There was a hamfest in York, PA the same day as ours, and also our hamfest date fell on Palm Sunday, which probably prevented some people from coming. We are thinking about possibly having our next hamfest all indoors and possibly in the winter when there would be no other hamfest on the same date. We will talk about this at the next meeting and get everyone’s opinion.

Please put June 8th on your calendar, as this will be the Cambridge Eagleman Triathlon. Mike, N3OUE has gotten everything all planned out and will be giving us some paperwork and maps at this month’s meeting. Mike said that everyone should show up by 6:30 AM in Cambridge to be assigned his or her spots on the course. We need about 15 people with mobile or hand held 2-meter rigs to help with the communication. If you only have a hand held, please be sure and bring a 5/8-wave magnetic mount antenna that will mate with the connector on your HT. We will be able to use the 045 repeater this year, and this should work out very well to cover all of Dorchester County.

Please also put June 28th and 29th on your calendar, as this will be Field Day. John, K3OLE is working on finding us a good place for us to set up this year. John found out that the Ag Center has already been spoken for this year on that date. At the club meeting we want to vote on reserving the Ag Center for Field Day next year. This year field day should be a lot of fun, and we can put our full effort in it without the hamfest being on the same weekend. We have just had a HF beam donated to the club, and hopefully we can use it this year and have a big signal.

  • Lee, KA3HYJ is making out very well after his by- pass surgery.

  • Peter and Nancy, K3PKC & KB3HYW are back from their 8 month long sailboat trip. They went as far as Key West, Florida, and back to Oxford.

  • The Dayton Hamvention is May 16, 17, and 18th and W3PAW and K3RUQ will be going to be attending.

  • Jack, N3TAF is an excellent wood carver, and he has made a beautiful walking stick, and has sent it thru the Catholic Church to the Pope.
Jack has a picture of the Pope using it overseas!!

  • Cheryl Meekins has donated a hand made gavel with a brass plate that says E.A.R.S. for the club president to use at our meetings.

  • Stephanie, KB3HYX has been attending a professional dog grooming school near Washington, DC.
