EASTON AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY, INC

APRIL 2004 NEWSLETTER

www.k3emd.com

Hello all EARS members.  Our next meeting will be on 4-20-04 Tuesday, 7PM at the Talbot 911 Center  The big news this month is the success of our 3rd annual Eastern Shore Hamfest.  The weather was great on Saturday, April 10th and many of us were at the hamfest site before 5 am to get things ready.  This year we had the most club participation we have ever had and also the most attendees we have ever had.  So each year the count is going up.  We had about 175 paid hams attend which netted us $1005.00 at the gate.  The Talbot County Community Center charged us $235.00 and this was our main expense. Paul, W3PAW donated all of the door prizes including an Icom HT and we all should thank him for his generosity.  Even though I have heard some comments that the hamfest was not very large, I want everyone to realize that this was the largest hamfest ever held to date on the Eastern Shore, by any ham club.  That is something to be proud of.

Owen, K6LEW who has been K6LEW since 1952 has changed his call to K3CB!  (Chesapeake Bay?)   (Christian Broadcasting?)  (Charlie Brown ?)

Owen has also recently passed his Extra and is getting ready to set up a new ham station in Royal Oak.

Also Dave Handley, KB3KXC has applied for and received his new vanity call W3DMH- his initials !

We would like to welcome two new members to our EARS club:

Bob Luff, W3GAC who has a summer home in Wittman and lives in Manhattan during the week.  Jim Lovell, KB3KXC lives in Stevensville and is presently taking the General class each week.

The General classes are going full speed ahead with very good attendance on Thursday nights.  Peter, K3PKC and John, K3OLE are the teachers and Bob, W9GE and Tinsley, K3RUQ are teaching the code.  Mike, N3OUE will be giving the tests on May 19th, 7 PM at the Talbot 911 Center.  Anyone wishing to test on that date must pre- register with Mike by emailing him at  n3oue@fastol.com, or calling in the evening at 410 822 08573

73,  Tinsley K3RUQ  EARS  Secretary
