EASTON AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY, INC
MARCH 2004 NEWSLETTER

Our next meeting will be Tuesday March 16th, 7 PM at the Talbot 911 Center in Easton.

Allan Fox, N5LKJ will be our guest speaker and he will have a 30 minute DVD about their last launch on August 23, 2003 of a balloon to the Edge of Space.  The balloon carried a color amateur TV camera, a cross band FM repeater and a host of other electronics during its flight.  This should be a very interesting talk and video.  Also, the club would like to thank Allan for doing the web site work for our www.k3emd.com site, and putting the newsletter on each month for us.

The big news this month is how well both our Technician and General classes have gone under the direction of Peter, K3PKC. Our last class was held on March 4th, with testing to be held on March 18th 2004 at the Talbot 911 Center at 7 PM… Everyone who wants to take their exam must notify Mike, N3OUE in advance.  Mike’s home phone is 410 822 0856 and his email address is n3oue@fastol.com   We are planning to have a new General course start next month.  It will be a 5 evening course and will be held at 7 PM at the Talbot 911 Center on the following dates, 4-1, 4-8, 4-14, 4-22, 4-29-04.

At this month’s meeting, Paul, W3PAW will be talking about our EARS hamfest which will be next month on Saturday April 10th at the Talbot County Community Center on Rt 50, just north of Easton.  We need all the help we can get to run our hamfest, so please volunteer for what ever spot you can help with.  We would like everyone to have a good time, and also try to make some money for the club treasury!

On Sunday March 14th Brett, KB3HGP conducted a RACES test and was assisted by K3PKC, KB9MEJ, KB3KSP, KB3HVE, K3OLE.  They put up temporary antennas at the Easton HS, St Michaels HS, and Tilghman Island HS to test simplex and repeater coverage from these areas of the county… Brett would like to install permanent antennas and coax at these locations so when we do have an emergency we can communicate easily around the county and to the EOC.

Don’t forget the Timonium hamfest is the end of this month on 3-27-04 and 3-28-04.  This is the largest hamfest in the area, so don’t miss it !

Our first new ham from the Technician course is Spanky Barth, KB3KSP.  Spanky lives in Federalsburg. He passed his test, and received his call even before the classes had ended!  Welcome to the EARS club also as a new member.

Owen, K6LEW has just passed his Extra!!  Congratulations Owen.

Take a minute to go to this web site   www.k4ja.com  This is the ham antenna farm of your dreams.  Look at all the pictures on the web site of this PVRC contest station.

Mark your calendar the third Saturday of each month for the Bagel Bakery in Easton (near Lowe's).  Ray, W3BFC thought it would be a nice idea for hams who live out of town during the week to get together for some fellowship with the local hams.  All are welcome !  Our next bagel morning will be 3-20-04 at 9:30 AM.
