DINNER MEETING

SUICIDE BRIDGE RESTAURANT

HURLOCK, MD

Hello all E.A.R.S. members. Our next meeting will be a dinner meeting at the Suicide Bridge Restaurant near Hurlock, MD (phone 410 943 4689).

We have reserved the sun porch on the waterfront at 6:30PM for drinks, and dinner will be ordered at 7PM. Please be sure to bring your wife or girlfriend. A special steak dinner will be available for $9.95 or you can order off the menu which offers seafood and steak, as well as pasta dishes.

Our last meeting was at the Talbot 911 center on 11-19-02. Ms. Chris Milligan from Talbot County was there to make our RACES photo ID badges, and the following hams attended: KB3HSJ, W3PAW, K30LE, K3RUQ, KB3HYY, K3PKC, KB3HVE, KB9MEJ, W3YOZ, KB3HSM, N3OUE, KB1EJH, N3TFO, KB3HYJ, KB3HYX, KB3HGP, W3BFC, N5LKJ, and K3SVA. Marty, W3YOZ gave another antenna talk to our group which we all enjoyed. Now that several of our newest hams are starting to put up antennas of their own, I am sure that this antenna talk was much appreciated.

Under new business, Paul, W3PAW has been working on hamfest dates and we voted to have the next E.A.R.S. hamfest in the Spring of 2003 at the Talbot Community Center. We should know the exact date soon.

Brett, KB3HGP has made a $300.00 contribution to the repeater antenna fund, which will finish off the $3200.00 expense we had from installing the new antenna system for our 147.045 repeater at the new Trappe tower site.

Also Brett, KB3HGP is going to take over the EC responsibilities from Paul, W3PAW, since Paul is working out of town and will not have the time needed to organize our Talbot County RACES program. Several others at the meeting expressed a genuine interest in becoming active in organizing the RACES program with Brett. K3OLE, KB3HVE, W3PAW, KB9MEJ, N3TFO, K3RUQ, KB3HSM, and KB3HYX were the first to say they were interested in helping. Brett is working with Al Fitzsimsimons, W3YRS to try to have a Saturday meeting during December to explain message handling to those E.A.R.S. members that want to learn more about the RACES program. Brett will call us to let everyone know the date and time. Let’s all remember to put on our calendars the second Tuesday of each month at 7PM try to check in the RACES net on the Davidsonville repeater. The frequency is 147.105, PL 107.2. We want to represent our Eastern Shore counties. This month the net will be 12-10-02.

Chris, KB3HVE has bought a new 2 meter rig from Jeff K3KBK, and he is sounding much better ! Chris is recording the ARRL news and playing it on the E.A.R.S net each Tuesday night at 7PM before asking for check-ins. This was we can all keep up to date with the current ARRL news.

Pete and Nancy Colket, K3PKC and KB3HYW are heading back to their boat in South Carolina to continue their sailing trip south. Pete has a new HF rig and new multi band inverted “V” antenna in Oxford that he has been getting on 40 and 20 meters with.

Jeff, K3KBK has been on 2 meters with an assortment of new hand helds! He has a new Yaesu VX-5R and 2 new Yaesu VX 150’s.

I will be looking forward to seeing everyone at our dinner meeting on 12-17-02 at Suicide Bridge.

This Saturday 12-7-02 from 9:30- 11:00 am please come to the Talbot 911 center for a special RACES instruction on message handling by Al Fitzsimons, W3YRS. He is coming down from Baltimore to help us get started in learning about emergency communications.
