EASTON AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY NOVEMBER 2004 NEWSLETTER Hello all EARS members. Our next meeting will be on November 16th at the Talbot 911 Center at 7 PM. Our guest speaker will be Bob Finger, W9GE. Bob is going to give us an informative talk on HF operating practices and etiquette. This should be interesting to all, and will come at a good time for our new General hams in the club. At our last meeting Jim, W3JAL presented an excellent proposal for us to consider for attracting new hams to our club. We would like to talk more about this at our meeting. Some very interesting statistics that Jim dug up: there are 55 hams in Caroline, 38 in Dorchester, 114 in Queen Anne’s and 121 in Talbot County. This is a total of 328 hams, and only 40 of them are EARS members ! Brett, KB3HGP has headed up the committee to find topics of interest for our next several club meetings. Many members have voiced their opinion that we should start having an interesting speaker and topic at our club meetings. Brett let the club vote on the 32 topics that he thought would be of interest. Following are the next few EARS meeting topics: Nov. 16th 2004 Bob Finger, W9GE- HF operating practices and etiquette Dec. 21st , 2004 Christmas Dinner at Suicide if we all agree January 18th , 2005 Owen, K3CB- Antenna radiation patterns February 15th , 2005 Marty, W3YOZ- Radio propagation I have called Suicide Bridge in Secretary and asked if their sun porch room on the water would be available for our Christmas dinner meeting on December 21st, 2004 at 7 PM. We all enjoyed taking our wives out last year for a nice club dinner. At our meeting, we need to decide if we would like to have it there again this year. Brett, KB3HGP our RACES officer, held an informative RACES meeting on 11-9-04 at the 911 Center. We practiced sending and receiving messages, both on the air and between ourselves.. Put on your calendar- the next RACES meeting will be held on December 14th, 2004. The RACES meetings are always on the second Tuesday of the month after our 7 PM net. Pictures will be taken of the new RACES members. We have been having a good turn out for our Tuesday night net on the Easton repeater at 7 PM, so be sure to check in when you can and keep up to date on the club news. 73 Tinsley K3RUQ EARS Secretary tinsleym@comcast.net |
