Hello all EARS members. Our next meeting will be on 11-18-03, 7:00 PM at the Talbot County 911 Center. This will be a fun and interesting meeting. The main purpose of this meeting will be to welcome and introduce prospective new hams to the hobby. Peter, K3PKC has worked for two months now doing advertising for our ham radio classes which will begin on January 8th, 2004. There have been ads on many of the local radio stations, in several newspapers, and in Attractions Magazine just this month.
If you can think of a friend who would be interested in taking our classes, be certain to tell them about our meeting on 11-20-03. We will show an ARRL film, and have several of our members speak about their experiences in ham radio, and serve refreshments.

We would like to welcome our newest member, Alan Swinger, K9MBQ who has just joined our club. Alan lives in Oxford.

Ed Mullikin is home from the hospital, recovering from open heart surgery he had just a few weeks ago. We all wish him a speedy recovery. This would be a good time for him to figure out his 2 meter HT and get on the Easton repeater and talk to us!!

The RACES meeting was held on 11-11-03 and Brett, KB3HGP showed all the members how the state wide traffic system works between all the counties in Maryland. Talbot County sent and received messages from other Maryland counties as a test. At the RACES meeting were KB3HGP, KB3HVE, K3OLE, KB3HSJ, K3RUQ AND K3PKC. Below is a picture of Brett at the 911 Center RACES station.

NEW ANTENNAS GOING UP- W9GE now has a second 75’ tower with a big 40 meter beam and is installing a (4) square on 80 meters…This is an antenna made up of (4) 80 meter quarter wave verticals, with a large radial system and a switching system with phasing lines so that he can switch the direction the array transmits. Peter, K3PKC this week has had Maryland Tower Service, Inc install his new 2 meter vertical on top of his two story house, and also had his inverted “V ” moved up to a height of 33’ in a nearby tree, which is now working much better.

K3RUQ and his wife, Cheryl have just purchased 23 acres on Porpoise Creek Rd in Trappe, and are planning to build a new house, ham shack, and garage on the property. If you know a ham who would like to purchase Tinsley’s house, ham shack and tower with antennas, it will be for sale…If not he will have to do a lot of antenna and tower moving to the new QTH !!

Our EARS hamfest is locked in now for April 10th, 2004 at the Talbot County Community Center. Paul, W3PAW has made all arrangements and has new flyers printed up to pass out at the next hamfests. We will be listed as an ARRL approved hamfest on the www.arrl.org site and in QST. John, K3OLE is going to take care of contacting the other ham magazines to let them know about our hamfest.

Next month will be our Christmas dinner, and if everyone was happy with last year at Suicide Bridge Restaurant, I will call and see if we can have it there next month on our meeting night, which will be December 16th.

73,
Tinsley Meekins Jr K3RUQ
