FEBRUARY 2006 NEWSLETTER

Hello all EARS members. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, February 21st, 2006. Our meeting will be held at the Talbot 911 Center at 605 Port St. Easton, MD at 7 PM.

We are going to have a very interesting guest speaker, Mr. Rick Hamby, W2GPS. Rick is the president of AMSAT. Rick is a good friend of John, K8JW and they will be coming to the meeting together from Severna Park. There is a lot going on in the world of amateur satellite work, and Rick will bring us up to date.

Bob, W9GE has been working on making suggested improvements to our bylaws and this will be discussed at the February meeting. Please look at the reflector emails and bring yourself up to date with the postings that have made over the last couple weeks and bring your opinions and suggestions to the meeting. We are not going to vote on anything at this meeting.

This will be the last newsletter that will be mailed via the US Post Office to our four members that do not have email. We voted at the January 2006 meeting and decided that all club communications and newsletters will be sent via email using the EARS reflector. In this day and age, this is the most practical way to handle our club communication. I hope in the future the four members who do not use computers and email will consider going on line. Allan, N5LKJ will be posting the newsletter our club website, so anyone that can get on line can read the newsletter there.

Allan, N5LKJ has gotten his digi-peater on the air in Royal Oak this month and this will serve as a central link between the Channel 16 TV tower in Laurel, DE and the tower at the Naval Academy. This system is used for vehicle locating and other digital uses.

Owen, K3CB has been working hard this month on his new towers. His tower crew consists of W9GE, N5LKJ and W3TMD. So far all the work has been done on the ground since his towers fold over and telescope up.

Bill, KB3HSJ is home from Johns Hopkins after having surgery on his leg. He is making out fine at home and has been getting on 2 meters some.

There is a big hamfest on February 26, 2006 called the Winterfest. It is held at the Northern Virginia Community College and will be open at 8 AM. Admission is $6.00 and for more information call (703) 392-0150 or on line at www.viennawireless.org

Don't forget to check into our EARS net on Tuesday evenings at 7 PM on the 147.045 repeater.
