JANUARY 2006 EWSLETTER

Hello all EARS members.  Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 17, 2006, 7 PM at the Talbot 911 Center.

Our guest speaker will be John Williams, K8JW.  John will be talking on repeater linking and packet radio.  This should be a very interesting talk.

The big news for this month is that the new 147.045 repeater antenna has been installed at the Trappe tower up 250'.  The work was done by Bill Windsor, KB3HSJ owner of Maryland Tower Service, Inc. and his crew.  The job was completed, on December 23, 2005.  The weather was in the low 50' s and it was a nice calm day for tower work.  John, K8JW also mounted our spare Spectrum repeater in the rack below our Kenwood repeater at Trappe.  John has been working on the old Spectrum repeater for several months, and has it all operating well. He has made up all new interconnecting connectors and cables so it can be quickly interchanged with the Kenwood repeater, should it fail.  So far, our new Sinclair antenna has improved our repeater coverage and I have not heard any intermod or crackling noise on the signal. We really need to wait for a windy day to make sure the antenna has solved our crackling noise.

There has been a lot of tower work going on at Owen's house.  He has taken delivery of his two new towers and with the help of W9GE, N5LKJ and W3TMD has them installed on their bases.  By the newsletter next month there will probably be lots of antennas and feedlines installed.

Bob, W9GE has started a new lunch meeting place and time for the local hams. They are meeting at the Pub in Easton every Wednesday at 1 PM.  All are welcome.

Hope to see everyone next Tuesday,
